Brothers, many of us have benefited by reading Younger Next Year, which is a pretty good exhortation to put down your Excuse Bag and make the daily Down Painment regardless (without regard Brothers) to one's age. That's right, to hold off the creeping corruption off permanent FartSack-itis, you have got to hit it hard each and every day, and despite the lies we've bought into over the years, our bodies are built for it. The YNY guys compare it to pushing back the inexorable tide of old age one day at a time.
But look, there are going to be dry periods in our lives where we (ahem) slide back a bit. It's going to happen--that's a given--the key is how we react when it happens to us. For the past three weeks it's been happening to me. I could pull some golden oldie's out of the Excuse Bag to explain it, but why bother. The bottom line is that I've slid back a chunk from where I was three weeks ago, and I knew that hard truth before I posted for the 2FT this AM. I knew I had lost about 10 seconds/mile in speed and that I'd be looking at the Six of the lead group for most of the Brisket--and I was. This knowledge (and the prick to my pride I expected when I couldn't stay with the lead group), tempted me to bail this AM.
But look, I know I'm going to have to get those 10 seconds back at some point and the longer I wait the harder it will be. I might as well bite the bullet today, cuz it's smaller than it will be tomorrow. And that Brothers is the only decision you have to make when you are part of a group that is pushing back the tide together. You just have to decide to show up today. The fact that you are not alone takes care of the rest. It's a Single, Simple Choice. Aye.
If you want to die a little during your day try to run with CPJ, Nino, Strut, Colonel and Dredd.....they have a gear that most runners dont. Yikes. I am thinking I need to increase my distance and my speed, but trying to do it with those slappies is depressing.
ReplyDeleteI'll keep trying in the spirit of Dredd's exhortation above. Nice work men.
