A couple points to add…
1) I absolutely would not have run today if we didn’t go at 5:00am and if the other guys weren’t out there, so thanks to everyone who showed up.
2) Thanks to Pomfret for accompanying me on my quest for the “promised land” (i.e. a bathroom). We had at least 3 locked doors or other missed opportunities that tested my sphincter control before a suitable port-o-let was found. Not sure if I gained or lost any karma on that one.
3) As we were on our tangent (literally and figuratively), Pomfret and I discussed the concept of the player-coach. Pete Rose immediately came to mind, but I had to consult Wikipedia to confirm. It turns out that Pete Rose did indeed begin managing the Cincinnati Reds in 1985, the second-to-last season of his playing career. Other notables are Bill Russell and Mike Dunleavy Sr. Just thought you guys needed to know.
4) The funniest thing about today’s run occurred around 6:30am when Pomfret and I stumbled upon a twenty-something couple next to a cab outside one of the Uptown high-rise condos. The guy was dressed in gym shorts and a T-shirt. The girl was dressed in last night’s party dress. As she stepped into the cab with the guy clearly not getting in the cab, Pomfret yelled out to the couple in a congratulatory manner accompanied by a thumbs up gesture, “Walk of shame!” High comedy. I think both parties got a little laugh. I certainly did.
On that note. Happy Mother’s Day!
